How to Replace the Controller on an Arwibon Q30 Scooter

This tutorial covers the controller replacement process for an arwibon q30 scooter. The job includes disconnecting the battery, unplugging the control harnesses, separating the motor Hall connector, removing the yellow/green/blue motor phase wires, and connecting the replacement controller.

The important electrical rule is simple: disconnect the battery first during removal, and reconnect the battery last during installation.

Tools Needed

Prepare:

  • Socket wrench or open-end wrench
  • Scissors
  • Insulation tape if required
  • Insulating sleeves or heat-shrink protection used on the original phase-wire connections
  • Replacement controller for the Arwibon Q30

Before disconnecting anything, take several clear photos of the original controller wiring. They are useful references when the new controller is installed.

Step 1: Open the Deck Compartment

Turn off the arwibon q30 electric scooter.

Remove the deck cover and expose the controller and wiring inside the battery compartment.

Move the controller and wiring only enough to reach the connectors. Do not pull the harnesses out by force.

Step 2: Disconnect the Main Battery Power First

Locate the yellow XT60 battery power connector.

Disconnect it before working on the controller wiring.

This should be the first electrical connection removed.

Keep the disconnected battery connector away from exposed metal terminals while you continue working.

Do not loosen the motor phase-wire hardware with the battery still connected.

Step 3: Disconnect the Small Signal Connectors

Start unplugging the smaller control connectors from the old controller.

The official q30 scooter video shows these connections being separated from about 00:10.

According to the supplied procedure, these harnesses include connections for functions such as:

  • display communication;
  • brake cutoff;
  • lighting controls;
  • horn;
  • turn signals.

Hold the plastic connector bodies rather than pulling directly on the wires.

If a connector uses a locking tab, release it before pulling the plug apart.

Step 4: Disconnect the Large Main Harness Plug

Locate the larger white multi-wire harness connector.

Hold both connector bodies and pull them apart along the connector direction.

Do not twist the plug aggressively or pull on the bundled wires.

Step 5: Disconnect the Motor Hall Sensor Plug

Locate the white Hall sensor connector with the small motor signal wires.

Separate the connector carefully.

The supplied material identifies five Hall wires in this harness.

Because these wires are much thinner than the motor phase wires, always handle the connector by its plastic housing.

Step 6: Move the Phase-Wire Insulating Sleeves Back

Locate the three thick motor phase wires.

They are:

  • yellow;
  • green;
  • blue.

The connections are covered by black insulating sleeves.

The official arwibon video shows these sleeves being moved away from the terminals at about 04:33.

Slide the insulation back far enough to expose the bolted phase-wire connections.

Do not cut the motor wires.

Step 7: Disconnect the Three Motor Phase Wires

Use a socket wrench or open-end wrench to loosen the nuts and bolts joining the controller phase wires to the motor wires.

Separate the three ring terminals.

Before removing them completely, check your reference photo again.

Keep the connection hardware together.

Step 8: Remove the Old Controller

Once the battery, signal connectors, Hall plug, and motor phase wires are disconnected, remove the old controller from the deck compartment.

Check around the controller before lifting it out.

No wire should still be attached.

Step 9: Prepare the Replacement Controller

Place the replacement Arwibon Q30 controller near the original mounting area.

Do not connect the battery yet.

Before joining the motor phase wires, slide the black insulating sleeves onto the wires so they can be moved over the finished connections afterward.

Step 10: Connect the Yellow Motor Phase Wire

Match the yellow controller phase wire to the yellow motor phase wire.

Place the two ring terminals together.

Insert the original bolt through the terminals and install the nut.

Do not fully cover the joint with the insulation sleeve until the connection has been tightened.

Step 11: Connect the Green Motor Phase Wire

Match the green controller wire to the green motor wire.

Join the ring terminals with the original bolt and nut.

Make sure the metal terminal faces sit flat against each other.

Step 12: Connect the Blue Motor Phase Wire

Connect the blue controller phase wire to the blue motor phase wire in the same way.

For the configuration shown in the supplied tutorial, keep the phase-wire colors matched:

yellow to yellow, green to green, and blue to blue.

Step 13: Tighten the Phase-Wire Connections

Use the wrench to tighten each phase-wire bolt and nut.

The official video shows this at about 06:48.

After tightening, hold each connection and check that the ring terminals do not move.

These are high-current motor connections and should not be left loose.

Do not allow the metal terminals from different phase wires to touch each other.

Step 14: Cover Each Phase-Wire Connection

Slide the black insulating sleeves back over the three completed connections.

The official q30 scooter video shows the terminals being covered at about 07:44.

Each metal bolt, nut, and ring-terminal connection should remain inside its insulating cover.

Check that no bare metal is exposed where two phase connections could touch.

Step 15: Reconnect the Motor Hall Sensor Plug

Reconnect the white motor Hall sensor connector.

The official video shows the main reconnection process beginning at about 08:14.

Check the connector orientation before pushing it together.

Push on the connector housing, not the individual wires.

Make sure it is fully seated.

Step 16: Reconnect the Main Harness

Connect the large white main harness plug to the matching connector on the replacement controller.

Check the locating shape or locking tab before pushing it together.

Do not force the plug if the two halves are not aligned.

Step 17: Reconnect the Remaining Signal Plugs

Reconnect the smaller control plugs using the photos taken before removal.

Match each connector to its original position.

Reconnect the display, brake cutoff, lighting, horn, turn-signal, and other control connections shown in the original Q30 harness.

Do not connect plugs based only on size if several connectors look similar. Use the original wiring arrangement as the reference.

Step 18: Check the Complete Wiring

Before reconnecting battery power, inspect the controller installation.

Make sure:

  • yellow, green, and blue motor phase wires are connected to their matching wires;
  • all phase-wire hardware is tight;
  • the three phase connections are fully insulated;
  • the Hall connector is fully seated;
  • the large main harness is connected;
  • all smaller signal plugs are back in their original positions;
  • no wire is pinched or damaged.

The battery should still be disconnected during this check.

Step 19: Reconnect the XT60 Battery Plug Last

Once all other connections have been checked, reconnect the yellow XT60 battery power plug.

The official arwibon q30 video shows this at about 08:48.

This should be the final electrical connection made during the controller replacement.

Step 20: Test the Q30 Before Closing the Deck

Turn on the arwibon q30 scooter.

For the first drive-motor test, keep the drive wheel off the ground.

Check:

  • the display powers on;
  • the throttle responds;
  • the motor rotates normally;
  • the brake cutoff works;
  • the lights operate;
  • the horn and turn signals operate if connected through this controller harness.

If something does not work, switch the scooter off and disconnect the XT60 battery plug again before checking the wiring.

Do not move motor phase connections while the controller is powered.

Step 21: Reinstall the Controller and Deck Cover

Once the electrical test is complete, place the replacement controller into the original position inside the deck compartment.

Arrange the wiring so connectors and cables are not trapped under the deck cover.

Keep wires away from screw holes and sharp deck edges.

Reinstall the deck cover and secure the surrounding screws.
