How to Remove the Rear Wheel Motor on an Arwibon Q30 Scooter

This tutorial covers removal of the rear wheel motor on an arwibon q30 scooter. Because the rear wheel contains the drive motor, you need to disconnect the battery, Hall sensor plug, and motor phase wires before removing the wheel from the rear swingarm.

Keep the scooter powered off throughout the procedure. Disconnect the yellow battery power plug before touching the motor wiring.

Tools Needed

Prepare:

  • Allen key
  • Large open-end wrench, adjustable wrench, or socket wrench
  • Stable stand or support block
  • Protective gloves

Support the scooter securely so the rear wheel is completely off the ground.

Step 1: Open the Deck Compartment

Remove the deck cover to expose the battery, controller, and motor wiring.

Before disconnecting the rear motor, identify the yellow battery power connector.

Step 2: Disconnect the Battery Power First

Unplug the yellow XT60 battery connector.

This should be done before removing the phase-wire connections.

Keep the disconnected battery plug away from exposed terminals and metal tools.

Step 3: Disconnect the Rear Motor Hall Sensor Plug

Locate the white Hall sensor connector for the rear motor.

Hold the plastic connector body and pull the two halves apart.

Do not pull directly on the small Hall wires.

Step 4: Expose the Three Motor Phase-Wire Connections

Locate the three thick motor phase wires:

  • yellow;
  • green;
  • blue.

Slide the black insulating sleeves away from the connections.

This exposes the bolted ring-terminal connections underneath.

Step 5: Disconnect the Motor Phase Wires

Use the appropriate wrench to loosen the nuts and bolts connecting the three motor phase wires to the controller wiring.

Separate the yellow, green, and blue connections.

Before taking them apart completely, take a photo of the original connections.

Keep the bolts, nuts, and insulating sleeves organized for reinstallation.

Step 6: Pull the Motor Harness Out of the Deck

Once the phase wires and Hall sensor plug are disconnected, begin feeding the rear motor harness out through the frame opening.

Pull the cable gradually toward the rear of the scooter.

Guide the terminals through the opening instead of dragging them against the metal edge.

Do not pull hard on the Hall wires.

Step 7: Move to the Rear Brake Caliper

Go to the brake-disc side of the rear wheel.

The official video shows this at about 00:32.

Locate the two Allen bolts holding the rear brake caliper to the swingarm bracket.

Step 8: Remove the Rear Brake Caliper

Use the correct Allen key to loosen and remove both caliper mounting bolts.

Move the caliper away from the brake disc.

The video shows the caliper clear of the wheel at about 00:41.

You do not need to disconnect the brake cable for this procedure.

Do not leave the caliper hanging in a position that puts excessive tension on the cable.

Step 9: Remove the Brake-Disc-Side Axle Nut

Use a large wrench to loosen the rear axle nut on the brake-disc side.

The official q30 scooter video shows this beginning at about 00:45.

Remove the nut and the outer locating washer or axle hardware.

Keep the parts in the same order they were removed.

Step 10: Remove the Cable-Side Axle Nut

Move to the opposite side of the rear wheel, where the motor cable exits the axle.

Use the wrench to loosen and remove the second axle nut.

Remove the washer or locating hardware from this side as well.

Keep the left-side and right-side axle parts separate if they are different.

Step 11: Support the Rear Motor Wheel

Hold the rear wheel with both hands.

The official q30 electric scooter video shows the wheel being supported at about 01:10.

The wheel contains the hub motor and is heavier than a normal non-powered wheel, so keep it supported before sliding the axle out of the swingarm slots.

Step 12: Slide the Rear Wheel Out of the Swingarm

Pull the rear motor wheel along the open slots in the swingarm.

The official video shows the wheel being removed at about 01:11.

Move it backward and downward as required by the slot direction.

At the same time, guide the motor cable through the frame so it does not catch.

Once both ends of the motor axle clear the swingarm, the rear wheel motor is free.

Step 13: Pull the Remaining Motor Cable Clear

Continue guiding the motor cable and terminals out of the scooter.

Do not drag the Hall connector or phase-wire terminals across sharp frame edges.

Once the cable is completely clear, the rear motor wheel has been fully removed.

Step 14: Keep the Rear Axle Hardware Organized

Keep the removed parts together:

  • left axle nut;
  • right axle nut;
  • locating or anti-rotation washers;
  • thicker axle washers if fitted;
  • brake caliper bolts;
  • motor phase-wire hardware;
  • insulating sleeves.

If the two sides use different hardware, keep each side separate.

Taking a photo of the axle arrangement before removing the parts can make the later installation easier.

Step 15: Inspect the Motor Cable and Axle

Before repairing or reinstalling the rear wheel, check:

  • the motor cable where it exits the axle;
  • phase-wire insulation;
  • Hall sensor wires;
  • ring terminals;
  • axle threads;
  • locating washers;
  • brake disc.

The cable area near the axle deserves particular attention because it can be damaged if the wheel or harness is pulled at an angle.
