How to Remove and Replace the Rear Motor on an Arwibon Q30 Scooter
This tutorial covers rear hub motor removal and replacement on an Arwibon Q30 scooter. The job includes disconnecting the motor wiring inside the deck, removing the rear brake caliper and axle hardware, taking the motor wheel out of the swingarm, then installing the replacement motor and reconnecting the phase and Hall wires.
Because the rear motor is connected directly to the controller, disconnect the yellow XT60 battery connector before touching any motor wiring.
Tools Needed
Prepare:
- Allen keys
- Large open-end wrench or adjustable wrench
- Small open-end wrench or socket
- Scissors and replacement cable ties if needed
- Protective gloves
Support the scooter securely before removing the rear wheel.
Part 1: Disconnect the Rear Motor Wiring
Step 1: Open the Deck Compartment
Remove the deck cover to expose the battery, controller, and motor wiring.
The official Arwibon Q30 video shows the open compartment at about 00:00.
Locate the yellow XT60 battery connector first.
Step 2: Disconnect the XT60 Main Battery Plug
Hold both halves of the yellow XT60 connector by their plastic housings.
The official video shows the connector being separated at about 00:04.
Pull the two halves apart and leave them disconnected for the rest of the motor replacement.
Do not begin loosening the motor phase wires while the battery remains connected.
Step 3: Move the Nearby Wiring Out of the Way
The supplied procedure shows the nearby white charging/auxiliary connector being disconnected at about 00:08.
Move the surrounding wiring only as much as needed to reach the rear motor connections.
Keep track of every plug you disconnect so it can return to the same position during reassembly.
Step 4: Disconnect the Rear Motor Hall Connector
Follow the rear motor harness into the deck compartment.
Locate the white Hall-sensor connector.
The supplied procedure identifies this as a 6-pin connector.
The official Arwibon Q30 video shows it being disconnected at about 00:25.
Release the locking tab and separate the connector by holding the plastic housings.
Do not pull on the individual Hall wires.
Step 5: Expose the Three Motor Phase Connections
Locate the three larger motor wires:
- yellow;
- green;
- blue.
The official video shows the insulated phase connections being exposed at about 00:30.
Slide the protective insulation sleeves away from the terminal joints.
The ring terminals and their mounting hardware should now be accessible.
Step 6: Disconnect the Yellow, Green, and Blue Phase Wires
Use the appropriate Allen key and wrench to hold the phase-terminal hardware.
The official video shows the phase connections being loosened beginning at about 00:34.
Remove the bolt-and-nut hardware from each connection.
Separate the motor-side ring terminals from the controller-side terminals.
The video shows the three phase wires completely separated by about 01:00.
Keep the phase hardware together.
Do not allow the exposed terminals to contact each other.
Part 2: Remove the Rear Motor Wheel
Step 7: Remove the Rear Brake Caliper
Move to the brake-disc side of the rear wheel.
The official Arwibon Q30 video shows this area at about 01:02.
Use the Allen key to remove the two bolts holding the rear brake caliper to its bracket.
The video shows this beginning at about 01:04.
Lift the caliper away from the brake disc.
There is no need to disconnect the brake cable for the procedure shown.
Place the caliper to one side without pulling or sharply bending its cable and housing.
Step 8: Loosen the Brake-Disc-Side Axle Nut
Use the large wrench on the rear motor axle nut.
The official video shows this at about 01:21.
Turn the nut counterclockwise to loosen it.
The rear motor wheel is heavy, so keep it supported as the axle hardware is removed.
Step 9: Remove the Axle Nut and Washers
Remove the outer axle nut.
The official Arwibon Q30 video shows the hardware being taken off at about 01:28.
Keep the washers in the same order in which they were removed.
The supplied procedure specifically identifies an anti-rotation washer with a locating tab.
Its orientation matters during reinstallation.
Step 10: Remove the Cable-Side Axle Nut
Move to the opposite side of the rear wheel, where the motor cable exits the axle.
The official video shows this side at about 01:44.
Use the wrench to loosen the axle nut.
The video shows the nut being worked loose at about 02:04.
Remove the nut and washer at about 02:18.
Again, keep the hardware for this side separate so the original order is not lost.
Step 11: Support the Rear Motor Wheel
Hold the rear wheel with both hands before lifting it out.
Do not allow the motor wheel to drop when the axle comes free of the swingarm.
Also watch the cable coming from the motor axle.
That cable should not support the weight of the motor.
Step 12: Remove the Motor Axle From the Swingarm
Guide the flat-sided motor axle out of the open swingarm slots.
The official Arwibon Q30 video shows the motor wheel being removed at about 02:40.
Move the wheel rearward and downward as shown in the supplied procedure.
If the axle does not come out easily, check that all axle nuts and locating washers have been removed or released correctly.
Do not hammer on the motor cable side of the axle.
Step 13: Pull the Motor Cable Out Through the Frame
As the rear motor wheel comes away from the scooter, guide the disconnected motor harness through the rear frame opening.

Pull the cable through gradually.
Keep the Hall connector and phase terminals straight so they do not catch on the frame opening.
The old rear motor assembly is shown completely removed at about 03:03.
Part 3: Install the Replacement Rear Motor
Step 14: Check the Replacement Motor Before Installation
Before fitting the new rear motor, compare it with the removed assembly.
Check:
- axle orientation;
- motor cable exit side;
- brake disc side;
- Hall connector;
- yellow, green, and blue phase wires;
- axle washers and anti-rotation washers.
The replacement needs to match the original installation arrangement.
Step 15: Feed the Motor Wiring Into the Frame
Before seating the axle fully, route the replacement motor's phase and Hall wiring through the rear frame opening and toward the deck compartment.
Guide the connectors carefully through the passage.
Do not pull the harness by the individual wires.
Leave enough cable at the axle so the wire is not pulled tight once the motor is installed.
Step 16: Position the Motor Wheel in the Swingarm
Raise the replacement rear motor wheel into position.
The brake disc should return to the brake-caliper side and the motor cable should follow the same side and route as the original motor.
Align the flat sections of the motor axle with the open slots in the swingarm.
Slide the axle fully into position.
Step 17: Install the Anti-Rotation Washers
Return the anti-rotation or locating washers to their original positions.
The locating tabs must engage correctly with the swingarm slots.
These washers are important because the motor axle produces torque when the rear motor drives the scooter.
Do not install a tabbed washer with its locating section sitting outside the intended slot.
Step 18: Reinstall the Axle Washers and Nuts
Install the remaining washers and axle nuts on both sides.
Start both axle nuts by hand first.
Check that the axle is fully seated and the washers remain correctly positioned.
Then tighten the axle nuts securely with the large wrench.
The supplied procedure does not provide a numeric axle torque, so do not guess one.
Step 19: Reinstall the Rear Brake Caliper
Place the brake caliper back over the brake disc.
Install the two caliper mounting bolts by hand first.
Then tighten them with the Allen key.
Spin the wheel by hand.
If the brake disc has heavy continuous rubbing, adjust the caliper position before the final riding test.
Step 20: Route the Motor Harness Into the Deck
Pull the replacement motor wiring into the controller compartment.
Follow the original cable route.
Check the section where the harness exits the motor axle and where it passes through the frame.
Do not leave the cable rubbing against the rear wheel, brake disc, or suspension parts.
Step 21: Reconnect the Three Phase Wires
Connect the motor phase wires according to the color arrangement shown in the supplied Arwibon Q30 procedure:
- yellow to yellow;
- green to green;
- blue to blue.
Align the ring terminals and reinstall their bolts and nuts.
Use the appropriate tools to tighten each connection securely.
A loose high-current phase connection can heat up during motor operation, so the terminal hardware should not be left loose.
Do not allow one phase terminal to contact another.
Step 22: Reinstall the Phase-Wire Insulation
After tightening the three phase connections, slide the insulating sleeves back over the terminal joints.
Cover all exposed conductive metal.
Check each connection individually before moving to the next one.
No exposed ring terminal or mounting hardware should remain where it could contact another electrical connection.
Step 23: Reconnect the Hall Connector
Reconnect the white Hall-sensor plug.
Align the connector correctly and push it together until fully seated.
Do not force it in the wrong orientation.
Reconnect any nearby plug that was moved or disconnected earlier in the procedure.
Step 24: Inspect Everything Before Restoring Battery Power
Before reconnecting the XT60 plug, check:
- yellow, green, and blue phase wires are connected according to the supplied color arrangement;
- all phase-terminal hardware is secure;
- insulation sleeves completely cover the phase joints;
- the Hall connector is fully seated;
- motor wiring is not pinched;
- axle washers are correctly positioned;
- anti-rotation washer tabs are engaged;
- both axle nuts are secure;
- rear brake caliper is installed.
Only restore battery power after these checks are complete.
Step 25: Reconnect the XT60 Battery Plug Last
Reconnect the yellow XT60 main battery connector.
This should be the final electrical connection.
Push the two connector halves fully together.
Keep your hands clear of exposed motor terminals when restoring power.
Step 26: Perform the First Motor Test With the Rear Wheel Off the Ground
Support the Arwibon Q30 so the rear wheel can rotate without touching the ground.
Turn the scooter on.
Apply a small amount of throttle.
Check that:
- the rear wheel rotates in the expected direction;
- the motor starts smoothly;
- there is no abnormal mechanical noise;
- the motor cable remains clear of the wheel;
- no phase connection becomes loose.
Do not perform the first test with a rider standing on the scooter.
Step 27: Check the Rear Brake
With the rear wheel still elevated, operate the rear brake.
Confirm that the brake stops the wheel and releases normally afterward.
Spin the wheel again and check for heavy brake-disc rubbing.
Correct the brake adjustment before riding if necessary.
Step 28: Arrange the Deck Wiring and Close the Compartment
Turn the scooter off after the test.
Arrange the phase connections, Hall wiring, and other harnesses inside the deck.
Keep the insulated phase joints separated and positioned where the deck cover will not crush them.
Check that no cable sits over a deck-cover screw hole.
Reinstall the deck cover and secure its screws.
Final Check
Before riding the Arwibon Q30 scooter, confirm that:
- both motor axle nuts are secure;
- the anti-rotation washers are correctly seated in the swingarm;
- the rear brake caliper is secure;
- the brake disc does not have heavy continuous drag;
- the motor cable is routed away from moving parts;
- yellow, green, and blue phase connections are secure and insulated;
- the Hall connector is fully seated;
- the XT60 connector was reconnected only after the motor wiring was completed;
- the rear motor operates normally with the wheel elevated;
- the rear brake operates normally.
Perform the first road test at low speed in a clear area. Stop immediately if the rear wheel shifts in the swingarm, the motor cuts in and out, the wiring becomes hot, or an abnormal noise appears.
