Arwibon Electric Scooter XT60 Battery Power Connector Replacement Guide

If the yellow XT60 battery connector on an Arwibon scooter has melted, discolored, loosened, or developed heat damage, replace the damaged connector before the scooter is used again.

The supplied service procedure shows the positive and negative battery wires being handled one at a time so they are never cut or exposed together. Because this is a high-current lithium-battery circuit, the safer workshop method is to disconnect or otherwise isolate the battery output before cutting or joining the main power wires whenever the battery design allows it.

Inspect the Damage Before Cutting Anything

Step 1: Check the XT60 Connector

Inspect both halves of the yellow XT60 connection.

If the mating connector on the controller side is also burned or loose, replacing only the battery-side plug may not solve the problem.

Disconnect the battery from the controller system.

If the battery has a removable pack connector or another manufacturer-provided method of isolating its output, use it before beginning the repair.

Do not allow tools to bridge the positive and negative battery conductors.

The Positive and Negative Wires Must Never Be Exposed Together

Step 3: Open the Outer Harness Sleeve

Place the battery harness on an insulated work surface.

Carefully open the black outer protective sleeve around the main battery leads.

Do not cut deeply enough to damage the insulation on the red or black wire underneath.

Expose only the amount of cable needed for the connector replacement.

Compare the Old and New Connector Length

Step 4: Position the Replacement XT60 Lead

Place the new XT60 pigtail beside the original connector wiring.

Compare the lengths before cutting.

The finished harness should still reach its mating connector without being pulled tight or leaving excessive loose cable inside the deck.

Mark the planned cut position.

Verify XT60 Polarity Before Installation

Before connecting the replacement plug, inspect the molded polarity markings on the XT60 housing.

Confirm:

  • Red battery lead → XT60 positive terminal (+)
  • Black battery lead → XT60 negative terminal (−)

Do not identify polarity only from the physical shape of the connector.

Use the molded + and markings and the original wiring arrangement.

Reversed polarity can damage the scooter electronics immediately when the connector is plugged in.

Replace the Positive Lead First

Step 5: Keep the Black Wire Fully Insulated

Move the black negative wire away from the work area.

Do not strip or cut it yet.

Step 6: Cut Only the Red Wire

Cut the damaged red positive lead at the previously selected point.

Remove the old red connector lead.

At this stage, the black wire should still be intact and insulated.

Prepare the Red Conductors

Step 7: Strip the Red Wires

Strip only the amount of insulation required by the chosen splice or terminal.

Do not expose an unnecessarily long section of copper.

The video shows a relatively long stripped section for twisting, but a proper crimp or soldered splice normally requires only the length specified by the connector or splice being used.

Make the Red-Wire Connection

Step 8: Join Red to Red

Connect the replacement XT60 red lead to the battery red lead.

Use an electrical joint suitable for the conductor size and current.

The joint must not rely on loose twisted copper strands.

After the connection is complete, lightly pull both sides to confirm that the joint is mechanically secure.

Insulate the Red Connection Completely

Step 9: Cover the Positive Joint

Insulate the connection before touching the black negative lead.

Heat-shrink tubing is preferred where practical.

The entire conductive joint must be covered.

There should be no exposed copper or conductive splice hardware.

Only after the red connection is fully insulated should work begin on the negative conductor.

Replace the Black Negative Lead

Step 10: Cut Only the Black Wire

Once the positive splice is completely insulated, cut the black wire connected to the old XT60 plug.

Remove the remaining damaged connector.

Keep the finished red connection protected throughout this step.

Prepare the Black Conductors

Step 11: Strip the Negative Leads

Strip the battery-side black wire and the replacement XT60 black lead as required for the chosen splice.

Keep the stripped ends away from the positive wiring and other conductive objects.

Make the Negative Connection

Step 12: Connect Black to Black

Join the two black conductors using the same secure method used for the positive lead.

Pull-test the completed joint.

It should not move or separate.

Insulate the Negative Connection

Step 13: Cover the Entire Joint

Apply heat-shrink tubing or suitable insulation over the black-wire connection.

No conductive material should remain exposed.

At this point, the positive and negative splices should each have their own independent insulation.

Do Not Depend on Electrical Tape as the Electrical Joint

Electrical tape can be useful as an outer protective layer, but it should not be expected to hold a high-current conductor together mechanically.

The copper connection underneath must already be secure.

A loose high-current splice develops resistance.

Resistance at the joint produces heat, which can damage:

  • Wire insulation
  • XT60 housing
  • Adjacent wiring
  • Battery connector
  • Controller connector

If the original plug failed because of heat, inspect the quality of the mating contacts before assuming the problem came only from the wire.

Rebuild the Outer Harness

Step 14: Place the Two Insulated Wires Together

Arrange the repaired red and black wires next to each other.

Make sure neither splice is under tension.

Step 15: Restore Outer Protection

Wrap or sleeve the cable bundle so both repaired areas are protected from movement and abrasion.

Extend the outer protection into the original harness covering to create a smooth transition.

The harness should remain flexible enough to fit naturally inside the scooter.

Do not make the wrapped section so thick that it must be forced under the deck cover.

Provide Strain Relief

The repaired XT60 lead should not carry the weight or movement of the battery harness directly at the splice.

Arrange the cable so normal vibration is distributed along the insulated wire rather than concentrated at the repaired joint.

Avoid sharp bends immediately beside:

  • XT60 housing
  • Splice
  • Battery case exit
  • Controller connector

Never Cut Both Battery Wires at Once

A cutter passing through both positive and negative wires can short the battery directly through the metal tool.

Even when repairing one conductor at a time, keep the other conductor insulated and physically separated from the work area.

Do Not Work on an Exposed Live Battery Connector

The safest repair is performed with the battery output isolated.

If the battery has no safe service disconnect and the exposed leads remain energized, do not proceed with improvised live splicing.

Check the XT60 Contacts Before Reconnecting

Inspect the new connector.

The internal contacts should be straight and firmly retained.

Check that:

  • No contact is pushed backward
  • No copper is exposed outside the connector
  • Red and black leads are connected to the correct polarity
  • Connector housing is not damaged
  • Splices are fully insulated

Also inspect the mating XT60 connector.

A loose, burned, or oxidized mating contact can create another high-resistance connection and overheat the new connector.

First Power Test

After the repair has been visually inspected, reconnect the battery to the scooter.

Do not immediately perform a full-power acceleration test.

Turn the scooter on and confirm that the electrical system starts normally.

  • Smoke
  • Rapid heating

Check for Heating

After a short low-load operating test, switch the scooter off.

  • Damaged mating connector
  • Undersized replacement wire

Do not continue riding until the cause is corrected.

Final Inspection

Before closing the deck, confirm:

  • Correct XT60 polarity
  • Red wire connected only to red/positive
  • Black wire connected only to black/negative
  • Positive and negative joints separately insulated
  • No copper is exposed
  • No damaged wire remains near the connector
  • Mating XT60 connector is also in good condition
  • Harness has strain relief
  • Cable is clear of deck screw holes and sharp edges
  • Connector does not heat abnormally during the initial test
