Arwibon Electric Scooter Brake Handle Reset and Front/Rear Mechanical Brake Adjustment Guide
If the brake cable housing on your arwibon electric scooter has slipped out of the lever adjuster, the brake lever may feel loose, bind, or lose normal cable tension. The same cable system may also need adjustment when the brake lever pulls too far, the braking force feels weak, or the brake pads continue rubbing the rotor after the lever is released.
This guide follows the official Arwibon mechanical disc brake procedure. It covers resetting the cable housing at the brake lever, adjusting rear brake cable tension, repeating the same process on the front brake, and checking both wheels for brake drag afterward.
Tools Needed
- Approximately 5 mm Allen wrench or T-handle Allen wrench
- Stable scooter stand or repair support
- Protective gloves
Raise the scooter so the wheel being adjusted can rotate freely by hand.
Rear Brake Cable Reset
Step 1: Loosen the Rear Caliper Cable Bolt
Go to the rear mechanical brake caliper.
Locate the Allen bolt that clamps the inner brake cable to the caliper actuator arm.
Turn the bolt counterclockwise about one or two turns.
The purpose is to release cable tension.
Do not remove the bolt completely.
Once the cable is loose, the inner wire should be able to move through the clamp area.
Reset the Brake Cable Housing at the Lever
Step 2: Check the Lever-Side Cable Adjuster
Move to the rear brake lever on the handlebar.
If the outer cable housing has slipped out of the lever adjuster, first locate:
- The slotted barrel adjuster
- The slotted lockring, if fitted
- The cable slot in the lever body
Rotate these slots until they line up.
Step 3: Return the Inner Cable to the Slot
Guide the exposed inner brake cable through the aligned openings.
Do not force the cable sideways.
The inner wire should sit naturally inside the lever slot.
Step 4: Push the Cable Housing Back Into the Adjuster
Take the metal ferrule at the end of the black outer cable housing.
Push it fully into the barrel adjuster.
The housing should sit firmly inside the adjuster rather than resting on its edge.
Step 5: Rotate the Adjuster Away From the Open Slot
Once the cable is seated, rotate the barrel adjuster slightly so its slot no longer lines up with the lever slot.
This helps prevent the cable from slipping back out during normal use.
Pull and release the brake lever once or twice to check that it moves normally.
Adjust the Rear Brake Cable Tension
Step 6: Pull the Inner Cable at the Caliper
Return to the rear brake caliper.
Pull the exposed cable end until most of the obvious slack is removed.
Do not pull so tightly that the brake pads are already pressing against the rotor with the lever released.
Step 7: Tighten the Cable Clamp Bolt
While holding the cable position, tighten the caliper cable-clamp bolt securely.
Check that the inner cable does not slip when light tension is applied to the loose end.
No factory torque value is provided in the procedure, so do not invent one.
Check the Rear Wheel for Brake Drag
Step 8: Spin the Rear Wheel by Hand
Rotate the rear wheel firmly by hand.
Listen for continuous brake rubbing.
The wheel should rotate freely without the brake remaining partially applied.
Step 9: Correct Excessive Cable Tension if Needed
If the wheel is difficult to turn or the rotor continuously rubs the pads, the cable is too tight.
Loosen the cable-clamp bolt again.
Release a small amount of cable tension.
Then retighten the bolt and spin the wheel again.
Work in small adjustments rather than making a large change at once.
Test the Rear Brake Lever
Step 10: Apply and Release the Brake
Pull the rear brake lever several times.
Check that:
- Cable tension feels normal
- The lever returns after release
- The brake applies when the lever is pulled
- The wheel releases when the lever is released
If the lever travel is still slightly too long or too short, use the handlebar barrel adjuster for a small final correction rather than repeatedly reclamping the cable at the caliper.
Front Brake Cable Adjustment
The front mechanical brake uses the same general procedure.
Step 11: Loosen the Front Caliper Cable Bolt
Move to the front brake caliper.
Locate the cable-clamp bolt on the caliper actuator arm.
Loosen it about one or two turns.
This releases the front brake cable tension.
Reset the Front Brake Cable Housing
Step 12: Check the Front Brake Lever
Move to the front brake lever on the handlebar.
If the outer cable housing has come out of the adjuster, align the slots in the barrel adjuster and lever body.
Guide the inner cable into the slot.
Step 13: Push the Housing Ferrule Fully Into Place
Push the black cable housing and its metal end ferrule straight into the lever adjuster.
Make sure it is fully seated.
Rotate the barrel adjuster afterward so the slots are no longer aligned.
Do not use excessive force against the lever body or adjuster.
Set Front Brake Cable Tension
Step 14: Pull the Front Brake Cable
Return to the front caliper.
Pull the exposed inner wire until the obvious slack is removed.
Leave enough free movement that the brake does not remain applied when the lever is released.
Step 15: Tighten the Front Cable Clamp
Hold the cable position and tighten the clamp bolt securely.
Lightly pull on the exposed cable afterward to make sure it remains captured.
Check the Front Wheel
Step 16: Spin the Front Wheel by Hand
Raise the front wheel and rotate it by hand.
Listen for continuous rotor contact.
If the wheel rotates normally without heavy drag, the cable tension is close to correct.
If the wheel remains partially braked, release a small amount of cable tension and test again.
Fine-Tune With the Barrel Adjuster
The handlebar barrel adjuster is useful for small cable corrections after the main tension has been set at the caliper.
In general:
- Turning the adjuster outward takes up more cable slack
- Turning it inward gives back some cable slack
Make small changes and test the brake after each one.
Do not adjust the cable so tightly that the brake pads remain applied with the lever released.

Always Release Cable Tension Before Resetting the Lever Housing
If the outer cable housing has jumped out of the brake lever adjuster, release the cable at the caliper first.
Trying to force the housing back into the lever while the cable is still under full tension can damage the barrel adjuster, cable end, or lever body.
Once the caliper end has been loosened, the housing can normally be returned to its seat without excessive force.
Do Not Overtighten the Brake Cable
A mechanical disc brake needs enough cable tension to apply the brake properly, but too much tension can leave the pads touching the rotor continuously.
After every adjustment, spin the wheel with the brake released.
If there is persistent drag, reduce the cable tension slightly before riding.
Check the Cable End
Inspect the exposed cable end after adjustment.
If the strands are starting to separate or fray, avoid repeatedly bending the cable.
Check that the cable-end cap is still secure if one is fitted.
A badly frayed inner cable should be replaced rather than repeatedly reclamped.
If Brake Rubbing Remains After Cable Adjustment
Cable tension is only one possible cause of rotor rubbing.
If the wheel still scrapes after the cable has been adjusted correctly, inspect:
- Caliper alignment
- Brake pad position
- Rotor lateral runout
- Wheel and axle seating
- Caliper actuator return movement
Do not continue loosening the cable if the actual problem is caliper position or a bent rotor.
Final Brake Test
After adjusting both brakes, test each side separately.
Spin the wheel.
Pull the brake lever and confirm that the wheel stops.
Release the lever and spin the wheel again.
The brake should release normally.
Do not ride the scooter until both front and rear brakes apply correctly and neither wheel remains heavily braked after the lever is released.
Arwibon Mechanical Brake Compatibility
This procedure applies to the Arwibon mechanical cable-operated disc brake configuration shown in the official service video.
Use the same process on another Arwibon scooter or Arwibon electric scooter only when it uses the same cable-operated brake lever, barrel adjuster, and caliper cable-clamp arrangement.
Do not use this procedure for a hydraulic brake system, since hydraulic brakes do not use an inner cable or caliper cable-clamp bolt.
