Arwibon Electric Scooter Hub Motor Cover Installation Guide

After servicing the hub motor stator, Hall sensor board, bearing, or other internal components on an Arwibon scooter, the motor side cover must be seated squarely and secured evenly around the hub.

This guide follows the supplied Arwibon motor cover installation procedure. It covers positioning the cover over the motor axle, aligning the perimeter screw holes, seating the cover, and tightening the screws progressively around the motor.

Tools Needed

  • Pneumatic or electric screwdriver
  • Correct bit for the motor-cover screws
  • Stable padded work surface
  • Protective gloves

Support the hub motor so the axle, motor cable, and threaded ends are not carrying the weight of the wheel against a hard workbench.

Inspect the Motor Before Closing the Cover

Step 1: Check the Inside of the Hub Motor

Before installing the cover, inspect the open motor carefully.

Look for:

  • Loose screws or washers
  • Metal chips
  • Dirt or sand
  • Damaged wiring
  • Foreign material near the magnets
  • Pinched Hall or phase wires

Remove loose debris before closing the motor.

Because the rotor magnets attract ferrous material strongly, a small metal object left inside the motor can cause damage once the wheel begins rotating.

Check the Cover and Sealing Area

Step 2: Inspect the Motor Cover

Check the aluminum motor cover before installation.

Inspect:

  • Center bearing
  • Axle opening
  • Perimeter mating surface
  • Screw holes
  • Seal or sealing ring, where fitted

The cover should be clean and free of burrs or debris around the mating edge.

If the motor assembly uses a sealing ring around the cover, make sure it remains correctly positioned in its groove.

Keep Fingers Out of the Closing Gap

The hub motor contains strong permanent magnets.

As the cover approaches the motor body, magnetic attraction can pull the parts together suddenly.

Keep your fingers on the outside surface and outer edge of the cover.

Do not place fingertips between the motor cover and hub shell while lowering it into position.

Align the Motor Cover With the Axle

Step 3: Position the Cover Above the Motor

Hold the motor cover level with both hands.

Align the center bearing opening with the motor axle.

Lower the cover straight down over the axle.

Avoid approaching the axle at a steep angle, which can make the bearing or cover bind during installation.

Seat the Motor Cover

Step 4: Lower the Cover Into the Hub

Continue lowering the cover toward the motor body.

As magnetic attraction increases, keep control of the cover from the outer surface.

Press evenly around the cover rather than forcing only one side downward.

The outer locating edge should enter the matching recess in the hub.

Step 5: Check the Perimeter

Once the cover is down, inspect the gap around the full circumference.

The cover should not sit noticeably higher on one side.

If it is tilted, do not use the perimeter screws to pull a badly misaligned cover into place.

Reposition it first.

Align the Screw Holes

Step 6: Rotate the Cover Slightly

With the cover seated, rotate it slightly clockwise or counterclockwise as needed.

Line up the perimeter holes in the cover with the threaded holes in the motor housing.

Check several holes around the wheel rather than aligning only the first one.

All holes should line up naturally.

Start the First Screw

Step 7: Insert the First Motor-Cover Screw

Fit the correct bit to the pneumatic or electric screwdriver.

Place the first screw into one of the cover holes.

Keep the tool straight in line with the screw.

Start the screw carefully.

Do not drive it aggressively into an aluminum thread if it does not start smoothly.

If resistance appears immediately, stop and check for cross-threading.

Start an Opposite Screw

Step 8: Move Across the Cover

Instead of fully tightening several neighboring screws first, move to a screw position on the opposite side of the motor.

Start that screw as well.

Then move to another separated position around the circumference.

This keeps the cover from being pulled down heavily on only one side.

Tighten the Cover Progressively

Step 9: Work Around the Motor in a Cross Pattern

Continue installing the remaining screws in a spaced or cross-pattern sequence.

The purpose is to draw the cover down evenly.

A practical sequence is:

  1. Start one screw.
  2. Move to the opposite side.
  3. Move to another section of the cover.
  4. Install its opposite screw.
  5. Continue filling the remaining positions.

Do not fully load one side of the cover while the opposite side remains loose.

Complete the Perimeter Screws

Step 10: Tighten the Remaining Screws

Once all screws have started correctly and the cover is sitting evenly, work around the perimeter and finish tightening them.

Keep the driver square to each screw head.

Watch the motor-cover gap while tightening.

If one section begins to lift or sit unevenly, stop and inspect the cover position rather than continuing to tighten.

Do Not Use the Screws to Correct Major Misalignment

If the cover does not sit naturally against the motor housing, find the cause first.

Possible issues include:

  • Cover not centered on the axle
  • Bearing not entering correctly
  • Seal displaced
  • Foreign material on the mating surface
  • Screw holes not aligned
  • Internal wire trapped between the cover and housing

Tightening the screws harder is not the correct way to overcome one of these conditions.

Protect the Motor Wiring

During cover installation, pay particular attention to the motor cable and any internal wiring near the side cover.

No wire should be trapped between the mating surfaces.

A pinched Hall or phase wire can create a fault that only appears after the motor has been reassembled.

Before final tightening, inspect the cable exit area again.

Check the Sealing Ring

The supplied procedure notes the importance of the sealing area around the motor cover.

If the motor uses a rubber or silicone sealing ring, make sure it is:

  • Inside its correct groove
  • Not twisted
  • Not cut
  • Not pushed outside the cover
  • Not trapped between the screw holes

The cover should compress the seal evenly around the circumference.

Be Careful With Powered Drivers

A pneumatic or electric driver makes the installation faster, but it can also damage aluminum threads very quickly.

Use the correct bit and keep it fully seated in the screw head.

Do not keep driving after the screw has clearly seated.

The supplied notes mention approximately 4–6 N·m as a working figure, but the referenced video does not establish a factory torque specification for every Arwibon motor. Use the specified torque for the exact motor if official model-specific data is available rather than treating 4–6 N·m as universal.

Check the Cover Gap

After the perimeter screws are tightened, inspect the joint from all sides.

The cover should sit evenly against the motor housing.

Look for:

  • One section sitting higher
  • A visible seal pushed outward
  • Uneven screw seating
  • Cover movement when pressed
  • A noticeably larger gap in one area

If something looks wrong, reopen and inspect the assembly rather than operating the motor.

Rotate the Motor by Hand

Step 11: Perform a Mechanical Check

Before powering the motor, rotate the wheel or motor shell by hand.

It should turn without a new mechanical scraping or binding condition caused by the cover installation.

If the motor becomes noticeably harder to rotate after the cover was installed, stop and inspect the assembly.

Possible causes include an incorrectly seated bearing, internal interference, or a cover that was pulled down unevenly.

First Powered Test

After the motor has been reinstalled on the Arwibon electric scooter, raise the driven wheel off the ground before the first powered test.

Apply only a small amount of throttle.

Listen for unusual:

  • Scraping
  • Clicking
  • Grinding
  • Repeated mechanical contact

Stop immediately if the motor does not rotate normally.

Do not begin with a full-speed unloaded test.

If the Cover Was Removed During Tire Service

Some Arwibon hub-wheel assemblies may require motor-cover work during deeper wheel or tire service.

If the cover was removed while replacing a 12×4.50-6.5 or 100/65-6.5 tire, inspect both the motor-cover installation and the tire assembly separately before returning the wheel to service.

The motor cover must sit correctly, and the tire bead must also be seated and leak-tested according to the applicable wheel procedure.

Final Inspection

Before returning the arwibon e scooter to service, confirm:

  • No foreign material remains inside the motor
  • Motor cover is centered on the axle
  • Cover sits flat around the entire circumference
  • Sealing ring is correctly positioned where fitted
  • All perimeter screws started correctly
  • Screws were tightened progressively around the cover
  • No screw is visibly loose
  • Motor wires are not pinched
  • Motor rotates normally by hand
  • No new abnormal noise appears during the raised-wheel test
