Arwibon Electric Scooter Hub Motor Cover Installation Guide

After servicing the hub motor stator, Hall sensor board, bearing, or other internal parts on an Arwibon scooter, the side cover must be installed squarely and tightened evenly around the hub.

This guide follows the official arwibon motor cover installation procedure. It covers cover alignment, magnetic seating, screw-hole alignment, cross-pattern tightening, and the final mechanical inspection before the motor is powered again.

Tools Needed

  • Pneumatic or electric screwdriver
  • Correct driver bit for the motor-cover screws
  • Stable padded work surface
  • Protective gloves

Support the motor so the axle threads, motor cable, and connector wires are not pressed against a hard surface.

Inspect the Motor Before Installing the Cover

Step 1: Check the Inside of the Hub Motor

Before closing the motor, inspect the stator, magnets, and internal wiring.

Remove any:

  • Metal chips
  • Loose screws or washers
  • Sand or dirt
  • Small steel fragments
  • Other foreign material

Pay particular attention to the magnet area.

Small ferrous objects can be pulled into the rotor by the strong magnets and may contact internal components when the motor rotates.

Check the Motor Cover

Step 2: Inspect the Cover and Bearing

Check the aluminum side cover before installation.

Inspect:

  • Center bearing
  • Axle opening
  • Outer mating edge
  • Screw holes
  • Sealing surface
  • Seal or O-ring, if fitted

The mating surfaces should be clean before the cover is lowered onto the motor.

Keep Fingers Away From the Closing Gap

Hub motors contain strong permanent magnets.

As the cover moves closer to the motor body, magnetic force may pull it down suddenly.

Keep your hands on the outer face or outside edge of the cover.

Do not place fingers between the cover and motor shell while lowering it.

Align the Cover With the Motor Axle

Step 3: Position the Cover Above the Axle

Hold the side cover level with both hands.

Align the center bearing hole with the motor axle.

Lower the cover vertically over the axle.

Do not force the bearing onto the shaft at an angle.

Seat the Motor Cover

Step 4: Lower the Cover Evenly

Continue lowering the cover toward the hub.

As magnetic attraction increases, keep control of the cover from the outside.

Press evenly around the cover instead of pushing only one side.

The locating edge should enter the matching recess in the motor shell.

Step 5: Check That the Cover Is Sitting Flat

Look around the full circumference.

The cover should not sit noticeably higher on one side.

If the cover is tilted or does not seat correctly, lift and reposition it before installing the screws.

Do not use the screws to pull a badly misaligned cover into place.

Align the Screw Holes

Step 6: Rotate the Cover Slightly

Once the cover is seated, rotate it slightly clockwise or counterclockwise.

Align the perimeter holes in the cover with the threaded holes in the motor housing.

Check several holes around the motor.

All holes should line up naturally before tightening begins.

Start the First Screw

Step 7: Keep the Driver Straight

Install the correct bit in the pneumatic or electric screwdriver.

Place the first screw into its hole.

Keep the tool square to the screw head and start the thread carefully.

If the screw immediately feels unusually tight, stop and check the alignment.

Do not force a cross-threaded screw into the aluminum motor housing.

Start an Opposite Screw

Step 8: Move Across the Cover

After starting the first screw, move to a screw position on the opposite side of the motor.

Start the second screw.

Then move to another separated position.

This keeps the cover from being pulled down heavily on one side while the opposite side remains loose.

Tighten the Cover in a Cross Pattern

Step 9: Work Across the Motor

Continue installing the remaining screws using a spaced or cross-pattern sequence.

A practical sequence is:

  1. Start one screw.
  2. Move to the opposite side.
  3. Start another screw.
  4. Move across again.
  5. Continue until all screws are installed.

At this stage, the objective is to seat the cover evenly.

Do not fully tighten several neighboring screws while the opposite side remains loose.

Complete the Final Tightening

Step 10: Tighten the Remaining Screws

Once all screws have started correctly and the cover sits evenly, complete the tightening process.

Work progressively around the perimeter.

Keep the driver straight and fully seated in each screw head.

Do not continue driving after a screw is clearly seated.

The aluminum threads can be damaged quickly by an overpowered pneumatic or electric tool.

Check the Seal Before Final Tightening

If the motor uses a rubber or silicone sealing ring, inspect it before the cover is fully tightened.

Make sure it is:

  • Sitting in its groove
  • Not twisted
  • Not folded
  • Not cut
  • Not protruding from the cover edge

If the seal moves out of position, stop and correct it.

Do not tighten the cover over a trapped seal.

Do Not Use the Screws to Correct a Misaligned Cover

If the cover does not sit naturally against the motor housing, find the cause first.

Possible causes include:

  • Cover not centered on the axle
  • Bearing not seated correctly
  • Seal displaced
  • Foreign material on the mating edge
  • Internal wiring trapped
  • Screw holes not aligned

Pulling the cover down with screw force can damage the cover, bearing, seal, or threads.

Protect the Internal Wiring

Check the Hall and phase wiring around the cover area before final tightening.

No wire should be trapped between the cover and motor housing.

A pinched wire can create an electrical fault after the motor is completely assembled.

Inspect the motor cable exit area as well.

The cable should not be sharply bent or trapped by the cover.

Be Careful With Pneumatic or Electric Drivers

The source procedure uses a powered screwdriver for the perimeter screws.

That makes assembly faster, but it also increases the risk of stripping the aluminum threads.

Use the correct bit and keep the tool square to the screw.

Do not use excessive impact force.

The supplied notes mention approximately 4–6 N·m, but the source video does not establish that as a factory torque specification for every Arwibon hub motor.

Use the specified torque for the exact motor when official model-specific data is available.

Inspect the Cover Gap

Step 11: Check the Full Circumference

After tightening, inspect the joint around the complete motor cover.

Look for:

  • Uneven gaps
  • One section sitting higher
  • Seal protruding from the edge
  • Loose screws
  • Cover movement
  • Visible distortion

The cover should sit evenly around the hub.

Rotate the Motor by Hand

Step 12: Check for Mechanical Binding

Before applying electrical power, rotate the wheel or motor shell by hand.

Listen and feel for new:

  • Scraping
  • Grinding
  • Binding
  • Repeated contact

If the motor became harder to turn after the cover was installed, stop and inspect the assembly.

Do not assume the resistance will disappear after the motor starts running.

First Powered Test

After reinstalling the motor on the Arwibon electric scooter, raise the driven wheel off the ground.

Turn the scooter on.

Apply only a small amount of throttle.

The motor should begin rotating smoothly.

Stop the test immediately if you hear abnormal scraping, clicking, or grinding.

Do not begin with a full-speed unloaded test.

If the Cover Was Removed During Tire Service

The supplied procedure may also be relevant when deeper wheel service requires the hub motor cover to be removed during work on tires such as:

  • 12×4.50-6.5
  • 100/65-6.5

In that case, inspect the motor cover and tire installation separately.

A correctly installed motor cover does not confirm that the tubeless tire bead is seated correctly.

The tire still requires its own bead and leak inspection.

Final Inspection

Before returning the Arwibon e scooter to service, confirm:

  • No foreign material remains inside the motor
  • Cover is centered on the axle
  • Cover sits flat around the full circumference
  • Seal is correctly positioned where fitted
  • All screw holes aligned naturally
  • Screws were tightened progressively
  • No screw is visibly loose
  • No internal wire is pinched
  • Motor turns normally by hand
  • No abnormal noise appears during the raised-wheel test
