Arwibon Electric Scooter Folding Mechanism Screw Repair and Stem Wobble Adjustment Guide
If the folding stem on your arwibon scooter develops noticeable front-to-back play, looseness, or noise around the hinge, the folding mechanism should be inspected before the scooter is ridden again.
This guide follows the official Arwibon folding mechanism adjustment procedure. The process first releases the center adjustment screws, then aligns and secures the two side hinge screws, and finally readjusts the center screw so the mechanism fits correctly without making the folding latch excessively tight.
Tools Needed
- Approximately 3 mm / 4 mm L-shaped Allen wrench
- Stable work area
- Protective gloves, optional
Keep the scooter unfolded and standing securely while making the adjustment.
Identify the Folding Mechanism Parts
The procedure focuses on three areas around the lower stem hinge:
- Center adjustment screw
- Right-side hinge pivot screw
- Left-side hinge pivot screws
The center screw is used for the final fit of the folding mechanism.
The two side screws keep the folding joint aligned from left to right.
Loosen the Center Adjustment Screw First
Step 1: Locate the Center Screw
Stand at the front of the Arwibon electric scooter and look down into the folding mechanism.
Locate the recessed Allen screw beneath the central hinge or locking structure.
This is the center adjustment screw shown in the official procedure.
Step 2: Loosen the Screw
Insert the Allen wrench vertically into the screw.
Turn it counterclockwise approximately two to three turns as shown in the procedure.
Do not remove the screw completely.
The purpose of this step is to release pressure from the center adjustment before the two side hinge points are aligned.
Adjust the Right-Side Hinge Screw
Step 3: Locate the Right Pivot Screw
Move to the right side of the folding joint.
Find the large Allen screw passing through the side of the hinge assembly.
Check that the washer and surrounding hinge parts are sitting flat.
Step 4: Tighten the Right Side
Hold the stem steady.
Turn the right-side hinge screw clockwise until it is securely seated.
No tightening torque is provided in the source procedure, so tighten it securely without adding a guessed torque value.
Do not use excessive leverage.
Adjust the Left-Side Hinge Screw
Step 5: Locate the Left Pivot Screw
Move to the opposite side of the folding mechanism.
The official video shows this side near the warning-label area.
Insert the Allen wrench into the side hinge screw.
Step 6: Tighten the Left Side
Turn the screw clockwise until the hinge hardware is seated securely.
The goal is to bring both sides into alignment rather than tightening one side much more than the other.
Check the Side-to-Side Alignment
Step 7: Look Down From Above
Stand over the folding mechanism and compare the gaps on the left and right sides of the stem.
The official instruction is:
“Just align the sides.”
The stem should sit centrally in the folding base without obvious offset to either side.
If one side is pulled much tighter than the other, correct the alignment before continuing.
Readjust the Center Screw
Step 8: Return to the Center Adjustment Screw
Once both side hinge screws are aligned and secure, insert the Allen wrench back into the center screw.
Turn it clockwise slowly.
Do not immediately tighten it hard.
Step 9: Turn the Screw Until It Fits
The official procedure specifically states:
“Turn the screws to fit, not to tighten them.”
Turn the center screw until it contacts the internal folding mechanism and removes the unwanted free play.
The supplied procedure describes only a small additional adjustment once contact is reached.
Do not use a long extension bar or excessive force.
This screw is being adjusted for fit, not tightened like a normal structural mounting bolt.
Check the Stem for Wobble
Step 10: Hold the Handlebars and Test the Joint
With the scooter stationary, hold the handlebars firmly.
Push and pull the stem forward and backward.
Watch the folding joint closely.
There should no longer be obvious movement between the stem and folding base.
Also check for side-to-side play.
Test the Folding Latch
Step 11: Operate the Folding Mechanism
Unlock the folding latch.
The mechanism should still open normally.
Close it again and check the locking feel.
The correct adjustment should give you a secure joint without making the folding lever excessively difficult to operate.
If the latch becomes very hard to open or close after adjusting the center screw, back the center adjustment off slightly and test it again.

Do Not Tighten the Center Screw Excessively
The center screw has a different job from the two side hinge screws.
The official procedure does not tell you to tighten it as hard as possible.
Its final position is set by the fit of the folding mechanism.
If it is driven too far inward, the folding latch can become difficult to operate.
Stop once the unwanted play is removed and the folding action still works normally.
Keep Both Sides Even
The two side hinge screws should hold the stem centrally in the folding mechanism.
Do not use one side to pull the entire hinge assembly sideways.
After tightening each side, check the stem from above.
If the gap on one side is noticeably different from the other, correct the alignment before setting the center screw.
Do Not Continue Riding With Excessive Stem Play
If the folding joint has obvious movement during a stationary push/pull test, inspect it before riding.
Repeated movement at a loose hinge places unnecessary load on the folding hardware.
If normal adjustment does not remove the play, inspect the pivot hardware, washers, hinge surfaces, and locking components rather than continuing to tighten the center screw.
Stop if the Folding Mechanism Binds
After adjustment, the folding latch must still move through its normal range.
If the mechanism becomes stuck, unusually difficult to release, or does not lock completely, do not ride the scooter.
Recheck:
- Center screw position
- Left/right hinge alignment
- Pivot screw seating
- Folding latch engagement
The final adjustment should remove looseness without locking the folding mechanism solid.
Final Inspection
Before riding the Arwibon e scooter, confirm:
- Both side hinge screws are secure
- Stem is centered between the two sides
- Center adjustment screw is set to fit, not excessively tightened
- Folding latch opens normally
- Folding latch locks completely
- No obvious front-to-back stem play remains
- No side-to-side movement is present at the hinge
If the folding joint still has play after these checks, the mechanism may require closer inspection for worn or damaged hardware.
