Arwibon Electric Scooter Brake Sensor Test Guide for Arwibon Q12PLUS
If an arwibon electric scooter powers on but the throttle does not respond while the red brake-cutoff symbol remains on the center display, one of the brake lever sensor circuits should be checked before replacing a motor, throttle, or controller.
The official procedure shown here is for the Arwibon Q12PLUS. It isolates the left and right brake sensor connections one at a time and watches the center display to determine which side is holding the brake-cutoff signal active.
The same test should only be used on another model, including a Q06Pro, when its brake sensor connectors and wiring layout match the system shown in the Q12PLUS service procedure.
Tools Needed
No mechanical tools are required.
You will need:
- Electrical insulating tape
- Protective gloves
The test is performed by exposing and disconnecting the two small brake-sensor connectors in the stem harness.
What the Brake-Cutoff Signal Does
When the scooter detects a brake input, the controller disables motor drive.
On the Q12PLUS procedure, the center display provides a useful diagnostic clue: if the brake-cutoff symbol remains active even though neither brake lever is being pulled, one of the brake sensor circuits may be sending a continuous brake signal.
The test below isolates the right and left brake branches individually.
It does not require opening the deck or disconnecting the motor wiring.
Expose the Brake Sensor Wiring
Step 1: Remove the Spiral Harness Sleeve
Go to the front stem area.
Locate the black spiral sleeve wrapped around the main handlebar wiring.
Unwind the sleeve gradually by hand until the internal harness is exposed.
There is no need to cut the sleeve.
Keep track of its original routing so it can be wrapped back around the harness after testing.
Step 2: Remove the Electrical Tape Around the Connectors
At the lower section of the exposed harness, remove the black electrical tape covering the connector group.
Pull the tape away carefully.
Do not use a blade close to the small signal wires.
Two small black 2-pin brake-related connectors should now be visible.
Identify the Left and Right Brake Connections
The official Q12PLUS procedure identifies two separate brake-cutoff branches:
- Left brake sensor connector
- Right brake sensor connector
Before disconnecting either plug, trace the wires toward the corresponding brake lever so the two sides are not confused.
The connectors are small, so hold them by the plastic housings rather than by the wires.
Test the Right Brake Sensor First
Step 3: Disconnect the Right Brake Sensor Connector
Locate the right-side brake connector.
Press its locking tab and pull the two plastic housings straight apart.
Do not twist the connector sharply.
Do not pull on the red or black signal wires.
Leave the right brake sensor disconnected while checking the display.
Step 4: Watch the Brake-Cutoff Symbol
Look at the center display.
The official procedure uses the following result:
If the brake-cutoff symbol disappears after the right brake connector is unplugged, the right brake lever/sensor branch is the side producing the unwanted brake signal.
Inspect or adjust that side before replacing unrelated drive components.
If the symbol remains on, continue with the left-side test.
Test the Left Brake Sensor
Step 5: Disconnect the Left Brake Sensor Connector
Locate the second black 2-pin brake connector.
Press the locking tab and separate the housings.
At this point, both left and right brake sensor branches are disconnected from the main harness.
Step 6: Check the Display Again
Watch the brake-cutoff symbol on the center display.
If the symbol disappears when the left connector is unplugged, the fault is associated with the left brake sensor branch shown in the procedure.
The left brake lever sensor may require adjustment, wiring inspection, or replacement.

If Both Brake Connectors Are Unplugged and the Symbol Remains
If the brake-cutoff symbol remains active after both brake sensor connectors have been removed, the test has not isolated the fault to either brake lever.
At that point, inspect the remaining brake-signal wiring and controller-side circuit.
Possible areas to check include:
- Harness damage
- Pinched or shorted signal wiring
- Backed-out or damaged terminals
- Connector contamination
- Controller-side brake input circuitry
The source procedure does not provide enough information to identify a specific failed controller component from this test alone, so further electrical diagnosis is required before replacing the controller.
If the Brake Symbol Disappears When One Side Is Disconnected
Reconnect the opposite, known-working side and concentrate on the brake lever branch that caused the symbol to disappear when unplugged.
On that side, inspect:
- The brake sensor position
- Brake lever return movement
- Small sensor wiring
- Connector terminals
- A sensor that remains triggered when the lever is released
If the sensor position has moved, it may be possible to correct it using the applicable brake sensing adjustment procedure.
If the lever or sensor itself is damaged, replace the affected assembly.
Check Brake-Cutoff Operation After Repair
Once the suspected side has been adjusted or replaced, reconnect both brake sensor plugs.
Turn on the scooter.
With both brake levers released, the brake-cutoff symbol should not remain continuously active.
Pull one brake lever.
The display should indicate the braking state shown by the scooter.
Release it and repeat the test on the other side.
Both sides should respond independently and return to the normal state when released.
Test Motor Cutoff Safely
If you need to confirm the motor-cutoff function, support the scooter so the driven wheel or wheels are off the ground.
Apply only a small amount of throttle.
Then operate each brake lever separately.
Check that motor drive is interrupted when the brake signal is triggered.
Do not perform this test with the driven wheel touching the ground.
Reconnect the Brake Sensor Plugs
After diagnosis, reconnect the brake sensor connectors that are intended to remain in service.
Align each plug with its matching housing.
Push the connector together until the locking tab engages.
Lightly pull on the housings afterward to confirm they are locked.
Do not leave a working brake sensor permanently disconnected simply to make the scooter accelerate again. That would remove the electrical brake-cutoff function from that lever.
Rewrap the Stem Harness
Arrange the brake sensor wires alongside the rest of the front harness.
Wrap the connector area with electrical tape as shown in the service procedure.
The tape provides additional protection and keeps the connectors together, but it should not be treated as a guarantee of complete waterproofing.
Reinstall the black spiral sleeve around the stem harness.
Check Steering Cable Slack
Turn the handlebars fully left.
Then turn fully right.
The brake sensor wires and other cables should not become tight at either steering limit.
If the scooter has a folding stem, check the harness around the folding section as well.
Leave enough movement for normal steering and folding.
Do Not Diagnose a Motor Fault From a Stuck Brake Symbol
If the scooter powers on but will not respond to the throttle, check the center display before replacing drive components.
A continuously active brake-cutoff signal can prevent motor drive even when the motor and throttle are otherwise functional.
The connector isolation test in this procedure is therefore a useful first check when the brake symbol remains on.
