How to Install a Steering Damper on an Arwibon GT08 Scooter

The steering damper on the arwibon gt08 scooter mounts between the front stem and the lower folding-base area. The official installation video shows the complete process, including the clamp position, the long spacer, the beveled spacer, the lower mounting point, and the final steering check.

The spacer order matters on this job. The upper connection uses the longest tube together with the beveled spacer. If these parts are installed in the wrong position, the damper may sit at the wrong angle.

Step 1: Remove the Original Stem Screw

Start at the left side of the front stem.

Use an Allen wrench to remove the existing screw from the mounting point shown in the official arwibon gt08 video.

This screw is removed at about 00:07.

Set it aside and keep the mounting hole clear. This is where the upper end of the steering damper will be attached later.

Step 2: Install the Clamp on the Damper

Take the red steering damper and the black mounting clamp from the kit.

Slide the clamp over the damper body.

Insert the short clamp screw and tighten it enough to hold the clamp in position.

The official gt08 electric scooter tutorial shows this beginning at about 00:13.

Do not lock the clamp down so tightly that you cannot make any final position adjustment. The damper still needs to line up with both mounting points on the scooter.

The clamp assembly is shown at about 00:18.

Step 3: Identify the Long Spacer and Beveled Spacer

Before installing the upper mounting bolt, identify the two important spacers from the kit.

The official Arwibon GT08 tutorial specifically shows:

• the longest tube;
• the beveled tube or spacer.

The longest tube is shown at about 00:33, and the beveled spacer is identified at about 00:42.

Keep these two parts together for the upper stem connection.

Do not substitute one of the shorter spacers from the lower mounting hardware.

Step 4: Assemble the Upper Damper Mount

Take the long upper mounting bolt.

Pass it through the eye joint at the end of the damper rod.

Then install the longest spacer and the beveled spacer in the order shown in the official video.

This assembly begins at about 00:46.

The beveled spacer is used at the stem-side mounting point so the hardware sits correctly against the shape of the front stem.

Once the bolt and spacers are assembled, line them up with the mounting hole where the original stem screw was removed.

Step 5: Attach the Upper End to the Front Stem

Insert the long bolt into the stem mounting hole.

Turn it in by hand first so the threads start cleanly.

Do not fully tighten the upper bolt yet.

Leave enough movement for the lower end of the damper to be positioned correctly.

At this stage, the damper should sit along the side of the scooter rather than being forced into an angle.

Step 6: Prepare the Lower Mounting Hardware

Take the lower mounting bolt and the medium-length metal spacer from the kit.

The official tutorial shows these parts at about 00:56.

The lower mounting point is located around the folding-base or triangular support area of the frame.

Align the spacer with the existing mounting hole shown in the video.

Step 7: Install the Lower Mounting Bolt

Pass the lower bolt and spacer through the mounting point at the folding-base area.

The official gt08 scooter tutorial shows this at about 01:08.

Keep the hardware aligned while positioning the lower eye joint of the damper.

Do not force the bolt through if the damper is pulling heavily to one side. Adjust the clamp or upper connection slightly until the lower mounting point lines up naturally.

Step 8: Connect the Lower End of the Damper

Move the lower eye joint on the damper clamp into position over the lower mounting bolt.

Install the washer and related hardware as shown in the official video.

This step appears at about 01:25.

Check the damper position before tightening.

The damper body and rod should have a clear path when the handlebar turns. It should not sit against the frame or another component.

Step 9: Tighten the Upper and Lower Mounting Points

Once both ends are correctly positioned, begin tightening the hardware.

Use the Allen wrench to secure the upper stem bolt.

Then tighten the lower mounting bolt and nut.

The official arwibon gt08 electric scooter video shows the main fasteners being tightened at about 02:03.

Tighten the mounting points securely, but keep checking the damper position while you work.

If tightening a bolt pulls the damper into an obvious angle, stop and check the spacer position again.

Step 10: Tighten the Damper Clamp

After the upper and lower mounting points are secure, tighten the clamp screw around the damper body.

The clamp is tightened at about 02:06 in the official tutorial.

The clamp should hold the damper firmly so it cannot slide during steering movement.

Before moving on, make sure the clamp has not rotated while being tightened.

Step 11: Turn the Handlebar Fully Left and Right

This is one of the most important checks in the installation.

Turn the handlebar fully to the left.

Then turn it fully to the right.

The official arwibon gt08 video shows this test at about 02:14.

Watch the steering damper while turning.

The damper rod should move smoothly through its travel without reaching a hard stop before the scooter reaches its normal steering limit.

Also check the cables and brake lines around the stem.

Nothing should be pulled tight, trapped, or pushed against the damper.

Step 12: Adjust the Damper Resistance

The steering damper includes an adjustment control for changing the amount of steering resistance.

Turn the adjustment toward the higher-resistance direction if you want firmer steering.

Turn it toward the lower-resistance direction if you want lighter steering.

Make small changes rather than turning the adjustment fully in one direction immediately.

After each change, move the handlebar from side to side and check how the steering feels.

The damper should add controlled resistance without preventing normal steering movement.

Step 13: Final Check Before Riding

Before riding the arwibon gt08 scooter, inspect the complete installation.

Make sure:

• the upper stem bolt is secure;
• the longest spacer is installed at the upper connection;
• the beveled spacer is in the correct position;
• the lower mounting hardware is secure;
• the damper clamp cannot slide;
• the steering reaches both left and right limits;
• the damper does not bind during steering;
• the brake lines and control cables are not stretched or pinched.

Move the handlebar several times while the scooter is stationary.

If the damper reaches the end of its travel too early, contacts the frame, or restricts normal steering, correct the installation before riding the gt08 electric scooter.
