How to Adjust Front and Rear Brake Slack on an Arwibon Q30 Scooter

This tutorial covers front and rear mechanical disc brake adjustment on an Arwibon Q30 scooter. It applies when the brake lever travel is too long, braking feels weak, or the brake cable is too tight and causes light disc rubbing.

Tools Needed

Prepare:

  • Allen key
  • Small stool or support stand
  • Protective gloves

Raise the wheel off the ground before adjustment so you can spin it by hand and check the brake drag after each change.

Adjust the Rear Brake

Step 1: Raise the Rear Wheel

Support the scooter so the rear wheel is completely off the ground.

The official Arwibon Q30 video shows the rear-wheel adjustment beginning at about 00:00.

Make sure the scooter is stable before working on the brake.

Step 2: Loosen the Rear Brake Cable Clamp Bolt

Locate the brake cable clamp bolt on the rear caliper arm.

The official video shows this at about 00:01.

Use the Allen key to loosen the bolt counterclockwise.

The video shows the cable becoming adjustable at about 00:02.

Do not remove the bolt completely.

Step 3: Adjust the Rear Brake Cable Tension

If the brake feels too loose, move the caliper arm slightly forward by hand and pull the inner brake cable outward to remove excess slack.

If the brake is too tight and the wheel rubs, release a small amount of cable instead.

Make only a small adjustment at a time.

The goal is to reduce unnecessary lever travel without leaving the brake pads continuously applied.

Step 4: Tighten the Rear Cable Clamp Bolt

Hold the cable in the adjusted position.

Use the Allen key to tighten the clamp bolt.

The official video shows this at about 00:04.

Make sure the cable cannot slide through the clamp when the brake lever is operated.

Step 5: Spin the Rear Wheel

Spin the rear wheel firmly by hand.

The official Arwibon Q30 video shows this at about 00:06.

At about 00:07, the wheel is checked for free rotation and brake rubbing.

The wheel should rotate normally without heavy continuous contact between the brake pads and disc.

Step 6: Test the Rear Brake Lever

Operate the rear brake lever.

The official video shows this at about 00:10.

Check that the brake engages before the lever reaches the handlebar and releases again when the lever is let go.

Step 7: Repeat the Adjustment if Needed

If the rear brake still feels too loose or too tight, loosen the clamp bolt again and make a small correction.

The official video shows further adjustment from about 00:11 to 00:15.

Avoid making a large cable-tension change in one step.

Adjust the Front Brake

Step 8: Move to the Front Brake Caliper

Raise the front wheel if necessary so it can rotate freely.

The official Arwibon Q30 video shows the front brake adjustment beginning at about 00:18.

Step 9: Loosen the Front Brake Cable Clamp Bolt

Locate the cable clamp bolt on the front caliper arm.

Use the Allen key to loosen it.

The official video shows this at about 00:19.

The inner cable should now be able to move through the clamp.

Step 10: Adjust the Front Brake Cable

Hold the front caliper arm and adjust the inner brake cable.

The official Arwibon Q30 video shows this at about 00:20 to 00:21.

For a loose brake, move the arm slightly and pull the cable to remove excess slack.

For an overly tight brake, release a small amount of cable.

Do not preload the caliper so much that the pads remain against the disc when the brake lever is released.

Step 11: Tighten the Front Cable Clamp Bolt

Hold the cable in position and tighten the clamp bolt with the Allen key.

The official video shows this at about 00:23.

No tightening torque is provided in the supplied procedure.

Step 12: Spin the Front Wheel

Spin the front wheel by hand.

The official Arwibon Q30 video shows this at about 00:24.

Check wheel rotation and disc clearance through about 00:27.

The front wheel should rotate without heavy brake drag.

Step 13: Test the Front Brake Lever

Operate the front brake lever.

The official video shows the brake test at about 00:30.

Check that the brake engages normally and releases when the lever is released.

Fine Adjustment With the Barrel Adjuster

After the main cable adjustment, small changes can be made with the barrel adjuster at the caliper cable entry.

Use this only for fine adjustment.

If the brake is far too loose or too tight, reset the cable at the clamp bolt first rather than using the barrel adjuster through its full range.

Make small changes and spin the wheel again after each adjustment.

How to Tell if the Brake Is Too Loose

A brake may be too loose if:

  • the lever travels very close to the handlebar before the brake engages;
  • the brake response feels delayed;
  • the cable has obvious slack at the caliper;
  • braking force is weak even though the brake pads and disc are otherwise in good condition.

In this case, remove a small amount of cable slack and retest.

How to Tell if the Brake Is Too Tight

A brake may be too tight if:

  • the wheel is difficult to spin with the brake released;
  • the disc continuously rubs against the pads;
  • the caliper arm does not fully return;
  • the brake lever has almost no free movement.

Release a small amount of cable tension and check the wheel again.

If rubbing continues even after cable tension is correct, the caliper may need to be centered over the disc separately.

Important Notes

Remove Only Excess Cable Slack

Do not pull the cable as hard as possible before tightening the clamp bolt.

The brake needs enough tension to engage correctly, but the pads should not remain applied when the lever is released.

Secure the Cable Clamp Bolt

The inner brake cable must not slide through the caliper arm during braking.

After tightening, pull the brake lever several times and check that the cable position does not change.

Check Wheel Rotation After Every Adjustment

Cable tension should always be checked together with wheel rotation.

A brake that feels firm at the lever can still be adjusted too tightly.

Use the Barrel Adjuster for Small Corrections

The barrel adjuster is useful after the main cable position is close.

It should not replace the main cable-clamp adjustment when a large correction is needed.

Final Check

After adjusting both brakes, confirm that:

  • the front and rear wheels rotate without heavy continuous rubbing;
  • both cable clamp bolts are secure;
  • the brake cables do not slip;
  • both brake levers engage before reaching the handlebar;
  • both caliper arms return when the levers are released;
  • braking force is normal;
  • the wheels release after braking.

Perform the first riding test at low speed and test both brakes before normal riding.
